Project work...
A lot has happend in the last weeks. This Tuesday we had our first presentation with PhD-students and professors from Maseno University present as well as our own vice President from Chalmers. Representatives from the county government showed up, though too late to manage to listen to any of our proposals. And before we knew it they where off again, leaving us clapping behind. At least they welcomed us very nicely. We presented our ideas of proposals and projects and they were received very well. All of them are very interesting and highly important for a future sustainable Kisumu. These are our groups and a hint on what we are working on:
David, Atte, Sara
Water hyacinth as building material

Amy, Fred
Eco-lodge at Kit Mikayi
Knowledge gallery for Lake Victoria

Sofia P, Aldina, Klara, Amanda
Market upgrading through co-operation, at Otonglo market
Solid waste management at Manyatta peace market, an ongoing pilot project in the community

Johan
Briquette manufacturing for cooking stoves
Pia
A beautiful guide book for Kisumu the "Market city"

Loice, Frida Develop
Hippo point, a recreational site along the lake
All the groups are working hard, though the working pace in this heat and with this "African time" is much slower than at home. 1 Swedish minute = 10 African minutes, and if you have a meeting at 2 pm, you are happy if it starts around 3 pm. A normal day for many of the groups include some sketching on the roof top, some field studies on site, some meetings with involved people and groups and some workshops and material testing.
That's all for tonight!
